London, UK, March 31, 2014 – NTT DATA, the global IT innovator, has announced that it will provide business systems integration for Arqiva’s smart metering service in Scotland and the north of England. The deal will see NTT DATA provide design, planning, testing and integration services for Arqiva’s Business Support Systems (BSS).
Smart metering represents one of the biggest utility industry investments over the next few years. The roll-out of the meters to around 30 million residential and non-residential premises plays an important part in the transition of the UK to a low-carbon economy, as well as helping to ensure the control of an affordable, secure and sustainable energy supply.
“For this project to succeed, it was important for Arqiva to work with a proven systems integrator that could cover a broad spectrum of BSS-related technology and process areas. With estimates that the new smart metering system will save UK households and businesses over £6 billion and reduce CO2 emissions by 33 million tonnes in the period up to 2030, this project is particularly important to the Government, energy consumers and small businesses. We’re delighted to be part of it and look forward to bringing our international smart metering experience to this new service” said Alastair Masson, vice president, Telecoms & Media at NTT DATA’s UK operations.
The deal will see NTT DATA working with various leading technologies covering ERP, reporting, enterprise integration and order management. Peter Heslop, Engineering, Implementation & Operations Director, Smart and M2M, Arqiva said: “NTT DATA is the natural choice for Arqiva to help build the processes that will underpin Arqiva’s service management capability and business support systems for our smart metering network. NTT DATA has embedded its teams in ours and this combination of expertise has created a very productive working dynamic.”
