Banbury, UK, 7 March 2013: Silverstring, an expert in storage management and data protection, has announced the development of an enhanced version of its cloud-based automation application for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and multivendor storage environments. Predatar V7, which is available as a managed subscription, was officially launched at the IBM Pulse 2013 industry event and made available to new and existing subscribers soon after.
Fully-compliant with the new features of IBM TSM 6, Predatar V7 now benefits from an upgraded graphical user interface (GUI). Suitable for use by hosting providers, cloud and service providers, this latest version also enables managers and other users to access storage information via a mobile or tablet device. Problem-solving has also been upgraded, thanks to an in-built ‘Quick Fix’ capability, delivered via an extensive set of knowledge articles.
“The additional reporting capabilities in Predatar V7 can cope with many different TSM servers, making it suitable even for ‘super enterprise’ users,” says Predatar CEO Alistair Mackenzie.
“Organisations can get either a single or a consolidated view of their entire TSM estates, even those based across multiple data centres, geographies and continents. And by automating monitoring, alerting and incident management processes, Predatar V7 not only saves time but reduces the likelihood of human error.”
The introduction of customisable dashboards in Predatar V7 has made the tool even faster and easier to use. Users can now establish an instant ‘health check’ of their storage environment via easy-to-understand graphs and charts. In addition, headline information including raw statistics and performance comparisons can be accessed via the homepage, removing the need for time-consuming analysis.
“Relentless growth in data volumes is increasing the requirement for capacity growth and forcing up the cost of backup investment such as software licences, disks and virtual tape libraries (VTL),” adds Mackenzie.
“For this reason, users will no doubt welcome the analytics capabilities included in Predatar V7, which provide insight into the different types of data volumes and storage devices used within an organisation’s backup infrastructure.
“This latest version of Predatar also enables the easy identification of rogue policies that contribute to unwanted volumes of backup data being stored. The fact that data can now be trended over seven years will also help organisations to predict and budget for future TSM backup requirements.”
Predatar V7 was showcased at IBM Pulse 2013 on March 3 – 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. At 11am on Wednesday 6 March, Silverstring’s Alistair Mackenzie also discusssed how the combination of best practices and cloud-based automation software can lower the cost of delivering TSM services and improve service levels. He was joined by Colin Chatelier of Rabobank, a large global financial institution with multiple dispersed TSM systems.
Visitors to the Predatar stand at E517 also had the opportunity to find out whether theirs is among the best or worst-performing companies when it comes to data backup, via a free interactive demonstration of Predatar’s new Backup Index.
