Corporate Social Networking

We recently made a survey of innovation in social networking products and services for business. This is an immature market, with a wide range of potential solutions from a similarly wide range of suppliers. To help potential users understand what is on offer and whether it might meet their needs, we asked software companies to tell us what was new from them.

One motive for the investigation was to see whether users are being offered products and services specifically designed for this new set of requirements. In any new market, you will always find that some suppliers will push relabelled old products at buyers, in the hope they will not notice or care. Although there is no guarantee that purpose-designed offerings will meet an organisation's needs, there is a strong chance that 'badge engineered' old products and services will not.
