LONDON, UK, 17 June 2013: Casio Electronics Co Ltd and Cobham Systems have announced that Freshways, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of milk and cream to many wholesale, manufacturing and retail customers, have adopted the combination of Casio’s IT-9000 rugged handheld terminal, pre-loaded with Cobham Systems’ Roundsman Mobile software to fully automate the driver delivery process. From the UK’s largest independent processing diary in West London and from the busy depots in Manchester and Coventry, drivers are now ably equipped to supply Freshways’ range of own label and branded food whilst seamlessly automating back office processes.
In the past, Freshways’ delivery drivers used manual recording for delivery notes; money collection and returns, which were subsequently entered into their back office management package, Roundsman Enterprise, back at the depot. It was decided that adopting an automated solution would ease inefficiencies, eradicate human errors and decrease driver workload whilst increasing the reliability of account input. Freshways elected in procurement of the Casio IT-9000 handheld terminal, preloaded with Roundsman Mobile software solution to manage all aspects of the delivery driver’s round. Key benefits now include:
· For compliance, drivers now have to complete a vehicle checklist
· Drivers can now see how much product is loaded
· Drivers can view their round and all pre-ordered quantities
· Drivers can add and amend deliveries, record returns and breakages
· Drivers can take photographs, record payments and capture signatures
· Drivers can print delivery notes
· Drivers can take a future order from the customer
· Drivers can produce end of round reports detailing deliveries and collections
· Two way messaging with the office
· Round progress and delivery details are updated ‘live’, improving customer service
Rugged, easy to use and yet fully packed:
The Casio IT-9000 and Roundsman Mobile unit, seamlessly guides the driver through all parts of the shift; from compulsory completion of the vehicle checklist each morning; identifying what is loaded; and viewing special delivery instructions to complete the pre-round overview.
But it is once out on the road that the Casio IT-9000 with Roundsman Mobile becomes the true essential shift-buddy, from seamlessly adding and amending deliveries and calculations to recording returns and breakages through images captured with the built-in auto-focus colour digital camera. It is also used to catalogue payments, issue easy-to-read receipts, print full delivery notes and capture signatures. The GPS function allows round progress to be mapped back at head office at any moment in time, enabling customers to see the progress of their delivery, in real time, and to allocate resources accordingly in their retail loading bay.
Ergonomically friendly, the IT-9000 fits comfortably into the driver’s hand, but is rugged, and dust proof and can withstand the inevitable drops that occur (in fact, it’s drop tested directly onto concrete to a height of 1.5m). Drivers also reported that it was easy to read, in glaring sunlight or dim conditions. As with all essential tools designed for the food industry, the unit is completely splash proof allowing for heavy rain and spillages to be simply wiped away. At the end of the shift, back at Freshways base, the unit continues to decrease the driver’s workload, downloading end of round reports detailing exact deliveries and collections to ensure accurate invoicing for Freshways account holders.
Ravi Nijjar, Director at Freshways summarises:- “Having implemented Roundsman Mobile on the Casio IT-9000, we have seen dramatic efficiency improvements throughout the business. The majority of human error in the delivery process has been removed which means we have less queries and ultimately receive payments more quickly. In addition, we have made cost savings on personnel and the drivers’ end of round procedure is far quicker. We’re so pleased that we have also rolled out to Manchester and Coventry already and plan for other depots around the country.”
