12 February 2013 – Bluebird Care (Taunton) has invested in a mobile monitoring solution, iConnect, from Advanced Heath & Care (Advanced) to improve the way it manages home care workers in the Taunton area. The iConnect solution, which was provided to care workers on 1 February 2013, will also assist with contingency planning in Taunton’s flood prone areas. This news follows the announcement that Bluebird Care (Bath and North East Somerset) has provided its 60 care workers with Advanced’s iConnect solution.
Bluebird Care (Taunton) is part of the Bluebird Care franchise network, a national provider of care at home. It was established in August 2012 and provides home care to customers across the Taunton area. Each care worker has been provided with a touchscreen Samsung Tocco Icon mobile phone for use with the iConnect solution and Advanced is also supplying the airtime for the handsets.
iConnect delivers real-time task lists and data to care workers via their mobile phones and records their actual arrival and departure times at customers’ homes using near-field (NFC) technology. The need for care workers to carry around paper rosters showing where they need to be and when is eliminated using iConnect and customers no longer need to sign pieces of paper to prove care workers’ attendance at appointments.
Bluebird Care (Taunton) now has much greater visibility over where care workers are and whether they are going to be on time or late for their appointments. If a care worker is running late, this information can be quickly communicated to the customer and their families to avoid distress. In the event of a care worker failing to make an appointment, the head office will be alerted instantly so that a contingency plan can be made. This is especially important in Taunton’s flood risk areas.
Mark Oswald, Director of Bluebird Care (Taunton) says, “We needed a solution to improve the management of our home care workers while reducing risk, especially as we are so prone to floods in Taunton. Last year, we had terrible floods between two busy roads, which is becoming fairly typical. During these floods we didn’t know where all our care workers were, whether they could make their appointments and if they were safe.”
