Newtec Signs Basic Ordering Agreement For Satcom Equipment With NATO

Process for acquisition of Newtec satellite equipment now streamlined to ensure NATO countries have accelerated access to latest generation interoperable systems

Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, 12 February 2013 Satellite equipment specialist Newtec has signed a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA; N°13349) with the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA). The aim of the contracting procedure is to provide an accelerated and cost effective acquisition method for Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware, software & services.

Newtec’s satellite communications equipment already has a large install base within government and defense operations for a wide range of applications including intelligence and national security, airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, ground fixed communications, morale, welfare and recreation, disaster recovery, civil government networks and Non-Government organizations (NGOs).

“Newtec has an outstanding reputation for its quality and reliability in the satellite market and a rich portfolio of COTS products and solutions perfect for government and defense applications. These products serve as building blocks or turnkey systems for satellite networks, so it makes sense for NATO to have fast and reliable access to our latest equipment,” said Koen Willems, Market Director for Government and Defense at Newtec.

Optimizing data and video links has become even more important in recent years as transmission rates grow fast; more airborne ISR missions and a larger number of increasingly sophisticated and bandwidth hungry data collection equipment are being used. Newtec’s solutions are designed to continuously adapt to changing transmission conditions in order to ensure mission critical data is delivered, even when signal fade is causing a reduction in signal quality from its optimal level.

“As a long term partner to many government and defense organizations operating within NATO, this agreement will serve to streamline the process and reduce barriers for forces and countries wanting to benefit from our COTS. Extensive satcom research and development ensure that our technology is at the leading edge for high throughput and efficiency, ensuring the highest service availability and reliability,” added Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec.

Newtec will be exhibiting at the International Defense Exhibition and Conference, IDEX, in Abu Dhabi from February 17th to 21st, booth 12-C20. For further information on Newtec’s range of COTS equipment for government and defense applications visit www.newtec.eu/applications/government.
