Panduit Introduces Specialist Advisory Services to Help Reduce Data Centre Energy Costs

London, UK (December 5th, 2012) – Panduit Corp., a global leader in Unified Physical Infrastructure℠ (UPI)-based solutions, has launched specialist Advisory Services to help organisations to drive power and cooling efficiencies from their data centre infrastructure.  With the costs for the power and cooling of the Data Centre now estimated to be, on average, 70% of the total IT budget*, the services are designed to help pinpoint specific areas to achieve power and cooling efficiencies, save space or make better use of existing infrastructure.  The customised services draw on Panduit's heritage in delivering leading edge solutions for the data centre infrastructure .

As cloud computing and virtualisation place new demands on Data Centre infrastructures,  Panduit can provide a range of  services to identify where physical layer issues such as over-cooling  or over heating are draining costs, or even causing equipment failure;  it is estimated that  55%** of equipment failures in the Data Centre occur simply as a result of overheating.  Panduit's Consultants will assess the entire estate and advise on how to improve efficiencies, from space management to connectivity, cooling and power management.

Consultants can audit data centre environment to determine if it is optimized to support their current network operations and where energy savings can be achieved. The services are also designed  to help organisations prepare for a specific event such as a technology refresh, for virtualisation, consolidation, or an expansion.  For new build sites, consultants can carry out a predictive analysis to determine  areas where energy costs can be minimised.

Gary Gould EMEA Theatre Marketing Director at Panduit Comments:  "A huge amount of  IT spend is allocated on power and cooling, yet without a full insight into how the data centre is operating it's impossible to know how, or where, to make improvements  to bring these costs down.    The technology housed within Data Centres has become increasingly complex to support consolidation, virtualisation and cloud computing so it's essential to have a complete  view to detect issues or areas where savings can be made.

We've worked with customers who've brought the cooling costs of the Data Centre down by up to 40%.  All sizes of Data Centre can benefit  from this, for example, a small 68 cabinet Data Centre saved some £18,000 a year of their OPEX simply by having the right insight  - and taking corrective action - at the physical layer."
