NTT DATA handled major project for BMW's new website

London, 15.01.2013 - NTT DATA has managed the complete implementation of BMW’s newly designed website. The first milestone in this large-scale development project for the implementation of the BMW digital media strategy has now been reached with the launch of its new website at bmw.co.uk in December 2012.

At the heart of the site is the innovative car-configurator, where customers build their own individual BMW according to the features and finance they need. High performance, a maximum of quality and a consistent product personalisation highlight the growing importance of professional web presence. With these KPIs the new system acts as a comprehensive platform for all online customer communications.

"With the new website a best-in-class solution has been created: dynamic, innovative, aesthetic, entertaining, interactive," said Matthias Hanitsch, Vice President of Customer Management, at NTT DATA.

The variety of features, including car-configurator and customer interaction portals, were created using the Scrum agile development methodology, which made the project possible within just a few months.

"We used the Scrum agile process model for the project - a first for a project of this size. By using this we were able to take into account dynamic customer requirements, ensuring high speed and constant control of the complexity of the project” explained Matthias Hanitsch.

Frank Daßer, Executive Project Manager at NTT DATA: "What looks from the outside like the relaunch of the website is actually a broad redesign of various communication channels for sales and service purposes. The systems are thoroughly integrated into the CRM system landscape and allow the management of all digital customer communication, interaction and transaction from a single platform, both effectively and efficiently."

The Scrum method uses the development of many iterative steps, called sprints, which make developmental progress continuously transparent. In all, 120 NTT DATA employees and partners were involved in the highly integrated project. The overall architecture and technical design, implementation, and integration are being managed by NTT DATA.
