139 ambulance stations across the North West of England are working together to cut response times and share information over a new high speed network from Virgin Media Business. The new Wide Area Network (WAN) links all 139 ambulance stations with three ‘999’ call centres and two data centres – over one superfast fibre network.
The North West Ambulance Service Trust (NWAS) covers a population of seven million people and needed a high speed solution that would help them to share information faster and more effectively than its old BT N3 solution. Before the connection from Virgin Media Business, each trust was operating on different Network Infrastructure making sharing information complicated and slow.
The new network also delivers wireless connectivity to every ambulance station. With new opportunity to introduce new devices across the region, information can be shared more readily and administration staff are being given the freedom to work away from their desks.
Joe Richardson, Data Centre Manager, North West Ambulance Service explained, that the new PSN compliant network will allow the trust to collaborate with other services and organisations more efficiently within the new PSN framework. With the new improved connection from Virgin Media Business we’re now able to collaborate and transfer our data between sites and data centres faster than ever before, in just two milliseconds! This is helping us make a difference to the service patients receive.”
