Identity Management (IdM) solutions have been evolving since their establishment in the late 90’s with the purpose of simplifying the management of user identities and access rights across an organisation’s enterprise. Typically, IdM solutions are very expensive, take a great deal of time and effort to deploy and need dedicated staff with specialist knowledge to install, manage and maintain.

The recent growth in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) as a business model has prompted an increasing number of vendors to offer the IdM function as a hosted service, bringing all the benefits of an outsourced solution to the end customer.
