Microsoft has named Softcat as one of a select few UK channel partners to distribute its Surface Pro and Surface RT devices. In its new capacity as a Authorised Device Reseller (ADR), Softcat will drive sales of the Surface tablets to its wide-reaching base of commercial and public sector customers in the UK.
Softcat will also provide extended warranties and a number of other value-added services including asset tagging, custom imaging, kitting, onsite service and support, device recycling and data protection. Microsoft’s cautious distribution strategy has made it difficult for many consumers to obtain the tablets, so Softcat anticipates an enthusiastic customer response to the Surface Pro and RT devices, which provide a more efficient, flexible way to work.
“The addition of these authorized resellers greatly expands the reach of the Microsoft devices-and-services strategy, extending the company’s family of devices enabled by cloud services to more organizations,” said Peter King, Director, Devices Small, Medium Enterprises & Partners Group Microsoft UK. “We look forward to working closely with these partners to better serve their commercial customers. As we move quickly into future phases of this program, we will activate more partners in more markets to sell Surface devices.”
“We’re delighted to have made the grade, especially as the opportunity for becoming a Surface reseller in the channel is so limited,” Ian Goodwin, Softcat’s Microsoft business director, said. “This is a great opportunity to expand our current enterprise mobility offering whilst extending Microsoft’s reach and market share. The Surface RT and Pro tablets are perfect for our current customer base, many of whom are seeking light, durable mobile devices with accessible, easy to use applications.”
The announcement follows Softcat’s recently-announced Microsoft revenues for 2013. The reseller’s overall Microsoft revenue across all license types rose by 13% to £119.67million in the space of a year, propelling Softcat into second place in the overall Microsoft revenue rankings.
Ian Goodwin said, “Microsoft is one of our most valued and long-standing partners, and each year we strive to better our business performance, through investment in resource and ongoing innovation in our solutions offering. I’d like to thank our sales teams for being so committed, motivated and highly diligent; it’s this attitude which has resulted in these excellent revenue figures.”
Softcat was the only European reseller to reach the global finals in the Volume Licensing category at Microsoft’s 2013 Partner of the Year awards, in recognition of its consistent delivery of innovative solutions.
