Data masking, although it has been around for a number of years, is now recognised as being increasingly important, not least because of concerns over privacy and security. However, the market remains far from homogenous and, while some trends are emerging, we have yet to see these become definitive. In addition, there is only one 800lb gorilla in this market (IBM) and only one other large primate (Informatica) - we discount Oracle because of the closed nature of its solution - and there is therefore plenty of scope for smaller organisations to carve out a market niche in this space.
