ramsac, a leading IT solutions consultancy in Surrey has launched its ‘assettracking’ and ‘assettracking+’ services which are designed to help businesses, schools and charities to closely monitor their networks and equipment, as well as continually auditing software installations and updates. The service provides detailed reports for auditing purposes and alerts of any potential issues, such as machines nearing capacity and users installing unauthorised software, and also ensures that new machines can easily be installed and brought up to spec with existing systems.
ramsac Managing Director Robert May comments, “Keeping control of your company property is not an easy task but is essential for controlling expenses and maintaining company auditing. Organisations make a significant investment in their IT infrastructure, so it’s important to know who is using what equipment, what’s happening to it and what they are using it for. We have designed ‘assettracking’ and ‘assettracking+’ to address this issue and we also physically track hardware, including phones, PCs, laptops, mobile devices, printers and scanners, to ensure clients know exactly who in the organisation is holding it.”
With ‘assettracking’, ramsac installs a hardware appliance on the organisation’s network which, using auditing software, will run constantly in the background. This compiles a database of every network-attached device, building up a profile of the hardware specification, warranty cover, memory and disk space, daily changes to machines and all installed software. Using this, ramsac then provides a monthly report of the state of the network, tracks non authorised use and plans for upgrades. It also makes supporting each device more efficient, with ramsac’s remote helpdesk team able to quickly ascertain the state of the supported hardware, to see if it’s covered by a warranty and (in the case of rebuilding machines) to see exactly what software is currently installed - enabling a robust plan for a smooth transition to a new device.
ramsac’s ‘assettracking+’ adds a quarterly audit of physical hardware, labelling each item with a unique identifier and recording its location on a detailed asset log. As well as enabling an organisation to keep a track of who has got what, this is particularly useful when someone leaves or for reducing theft. The report is also a useful way of calculating replacement values when it comes to annual insurance renewal.
