Recession persuades 83 percent of IT pros to consider studying for a new qualification -Survey from The IT Job Board indicates that techies are keen to improve their chances-

Released: 26th October 2009
Publisher: Publicite Ltd

Since the start of the recession, 83 percent of techies have considered studying for a new qualification, according to research[1] from The IT Job Board, http://www.theitjobboard.co.uk/.

37 percent stated that the main reason for this was to increase their chances of getting a job, and 29 percent believed it would broaden their skills set.

When asked which areas they considered would be most important to flag up on their CV, when applying for a job, 46 percent of IT professionals stated that it would be highlighting the number of years of experience they had. 34 percent believed that it would be important to show relevant IT qualifications.

Supporting the above consensus, 100 percent of the industry recruiters surveyed cited that candidates highlighting their additional IT qualifications would stand a better chance of securing a job. And 100 percent also thought that those with certifications that supported experience would progress further in the recruitment process.

All IT professionals questioned advised that companies recruiting today tend to look for specialist skills.

Jamie Bowler, head of marketing at The IT Job Board, commented: "It is clear to see that representatives from across the IT sector are placing real emphasis on the need for employees to broaden their skills-set, and demonstrate a deep level of knowledge.

"IT pros who fail to keep up-to-speed with industry changes and new qualifications risk the possibility of missing out on new job roles, to those taking a more serious and planned approach to developing their careers."

Notes to editors

About The IT Job Board:
The IT Job Board group of companies was set up in April 2002 in recognition that recruitment in the IT sector was increasingly dominated by the internet.

Online technology enables sophisticated targeting - for example by skill, region or experience - of http://www.theitjobboard.com/'s database of 800,000 IT professionals. The IT Job Board always tries to get closer to candidates either via planned content campaigns, or through the use of social networks.

The site also offers employers services such as branded job postings, a featured employer zone, targeted email campaigns and guidance on advertising copy. The managed campaign service filters responses to provide companies with a shortlist of applicants most suitable for the advertised position.

http://www.theitjobboard.com/'s clients include IBM, Unilever, The University of Portsmouth and The Metropolitan Police.
