Symetri, an Autodesk Platinum Partner, continues to expand its client base in the UK’s oil and gas industry with an agreement to become the sole supplier of Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and digital design training to TWMA’s Aberdeen office.
TWMA, a leading provider of integrated drilling and environmental solutions for the global oil and gas industry, has invested in nine seats of Autodesk Inventor. Neil Fraser Thomson, TWMA project engineering manager says that these, combined with the benefits of Symetri’s training, have helped increase design productivity.
Thomson puts this significant acceleration of the design process down mainly to the migration from 2D design to digital prototyping. Now 3D models are visualised and analysed on screen so that clashes can be detected early in the design process. In particular, he cites Autodesk Inventor’s Frame Generator which speeds up the design of machine framework and the software’s automatic development of Bills of Materials (BOMs) from the data behind the 3D model.
TWMA is also making valuable use of Autodesk Vault data management software to store historical design data so that it is secure, but easily accessible whenever it is needed. This enables the team to easily and quickly re-use design data, instead of starting from scratch every time.
“All these factors have combined to totally transform the way we work and design,” says Thomson. We can now work so much faster. In addition, Symetri’s Aberdeen based training facility has been an added bonus.”
“TWMA has demonstrated the transformation migration to digital prototyping can bring. Combined with training in best practice to help maximise the software’s value, the results can have a dramatic impact on productivity, helping companies within this competitive industry provide a faster, effective response to their customers’ demands,” says Colin Watson, Symetri corporate director.
Symetri is an Autodesk Platinum partner, operating in the oil, gas, nuclear, transportation and manufacturing sectors, supplying 2D and 3D CAD design software, as well as specific third-party software applications. In addition it is an Autodesk Consulting Services partner, has achieved Autodesk Simulation Specialisation status and was recently the first in the world to be awarded Autodesk PLM 360 Specialisation status. Symetri Consulting Services was launched early 2012 in recognition of the evolving nature of digital product design, digital prototyping, data and product lifecycle management (PLM) and its customers’ need for broader expertise and guidance. Symetri is an Autodesk Authorised Training Centre and is a member of Autodesk’s developer network. Supporting over 750 customer organisations throughout the UK, it operates from offices in Aberdeen, Newcastle upon Tyne, Wakefield and Leicester.
