More than 100 people attended this year’s National Solicitors Own Software (SOS) User Group AGM and Conference, which was themed around the need to make the best use of legal software in order achieve
long-term strategic goals.

Entitled “Innovate and Evolve: Power Your Vision,” the all-day event took place at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, and attracted delegates from law firms across the country.

Some 94 per cent of them rated the “overall content” of the conference as being either “excellent” or “very good.”

Delegates were drawn from a wide range of roles including managing partners and partners, directors, heads of marketing, IT and finance staff, account managers, in-house developers and IT administrators, office administrators and legal secretaries. Also in attendance were 13 SOS staff with a combined total of 127 years’ company service, including directors, technical and support staff, and account managers.

The conference featured demonstrations of the latest enhancements to SOS software, business-focused sessions on CRM and marketing, and technical workshops on scripting and data health, plus support
clinics.

It also heard from sector expert Michaela Hardwick, of Beyond Compliance Ltd., on the topic of compliance and risk management, and Justine Tipling, systems manager at SOS client Barcan Woodward
Solicitors, on how the firm has realised the full potential of SOS software.

Delegate Steve Simpson, a developer at Chattertons Solicitors, said: “The SOS User Group AGM and Conference was a perfect example of the company as a whole: making the client feel valued as a
customer, as well as listening to and understanding the needs of the industry.”

Charles George, managing partner of Rothera Dowson, added that it was “a positive, informative and friendly event.”

David McNamara, managing director of Solicitors Own Software, who opened and closed the conference, commented: “In the changing legal market, progressive law firms must innovate and evolve so
they can compete differently.

“Making the optimum use of legal software is playing an increasingly crucial role in helping law firms to meet their strategic objectives, and this was the main aim of this year’s conference – to provide law firms with a range of expert insight into how best to achieve this, and to reinforce the fact that SOS is here to support them through every step of the process.”
