Am I alone in thinking that an AV (anti virus) engine that discourages regular backups is a joke in rather poor taste? Well, you can read about one that apparently does this, in my latest article on the Bloor site.
In my experience, "malware" is a very real problem - but I'm not sure that most AV software doesn't introduce its own issues, including performance degradation and the dreaded "false positive" that can stop a business-critical application running. Plus, I hate "nagware" and some AV products can be harder to remove from your system than many viruses!
I am starting to wonder whether novel approaches based on virtualisation and the cloud will seen sound a death-knell for AV as we know and hate it.
