Progress has announced the release of OpenEdge Release 11 platform for building dynamic, business-process enabled software applications that can be securely deployed across any platform, any mobile device and any Cloud environment. It will be generally available late 2011.

Progress OpenEdge 11 contains the following components:

  • a patent-pending multi-tenant database,
  • multi-cloud deployment options,
  • Business Process-enabled development, and
  • Extended platform support for mobile devices.

The OpenEdge 11 release has multi-tenancy built into the database and physically separates data storage. According to Progress this provides greater security and control for Cloud deployments. Additionally, the release simplifies SaaS (software-as-a-service) enablement, by providing a platform diversity, and a trusted partnership philosophy.

Progress Savvion Business Process Management (BPM) platform has been fully integrated into OpenEdge 11. The full integration of BPM into an application development platform will enables IT developers and ISV partners to develop dynamic business process-enabled applications out of the box.

Colleen Smith, vice president of Platforms and Integration, Progress Software, said "Using the latest OpenEdge platform, our ISV partners can develop dynamic solutions that incorporate business process and integration capabilities across multiple platforms and devices in a secure manner. Whether deployed on-premise or in the Cloud using the Progress Arcade portal, we offer our customers and ISV partners a single, integrated, development platform that provides significant cost savings and increased productivity."

This integration of the acquired Saviion BPM platform has been on the cards for a little while and Bloor sees this as an important part of the future direction of Progress and its OpenEdge platform and its stance on the use of BPM to underpin business apllications.
