Launch Macehiter Ward-Dutton

Macehiter Ward-Dutton was formed in February 2005 by two senior analysts formerly of Ovum: Neil Ward-Dutton, who acted as Ovum's Director of Technology Practices; and Neil Macehiter, who acted as Ovum's Practice Leader for software infrastructure services.

Macehiter Ward-Dutton is a specialist IT advisory firm which combines industry research and analysis with tailored consulting services, and is focused exclusively on issues surrounding IT-business alignment.

What we do

We provide advice to IT suppliers and enterprise IT organisations concerning IT-business alignment. Whether organisations talk about “On Demand”, “Adaptive Enterprise”, “Business Technology Optimization”, “The Real-Time Enterprise”, or an “Enterprise Nervous System”, the reality is that they’re talking about aligning IT investment, service delivery, organisation and strategy with business priorities.

We believe that technology “solutions” cannot by themselves help organisations address IT-business alignment challenges. After all, focusing on technology as a solution, rather than as enabler, is often a key contributing factor to the challenges that organisations face in this regard.

Correspondingly we’ve made it our mission to help both IT suppliers and enterprise IT organisations become more effective by thinking in different ways about the key enablers of alignment: IT and business architecture, integration, management, organisation and culture.

How we do it

Macehiter Ward-Dutton brings together two highly regarded and influential industry analysts, with more than 30 years combined experience in IT working for a variety of IT suppliers, including Autonomy, Deloitte Consulting, Oracle, Sun and Sybase.

We believe our combination of perspective, expertise and experience is uncommonly valuable. Unlike many IT industry analysts, we’ve spent many years analysing a variety of IT topics and product categories, and their interrelationships. Along the way we’ve come to understand the common factors which drive the effectiveness of how IT products and solutions are built, sold, bought and used. We’ve also worked with a wide variety of enterprise organisations on high-level technology strategy issues – not just looking at individual technology choices, but looking at how policies, processes and working practices can create an organisation which makes smart decisions about technology by default.
